Common questions
What is Schedule A/B in bankruptcy?
Schedule A/B (Official Form 106A/B) is the property schedule filed with your petition. Part 1 covers real property; Part 2 covers 35 categories of personal property. List everything — even fully encumbered assets.
Do I list property I owe money on?
Yes. List the asset at current fair market value. The loan balance goes on Schedule D. Omitting an asset is a federal crime (bankruptcy fraud).
What value do I use for household goods?
Current resale value — garage sale prices or Facebook Marketplace, not replacement cost. Household goods are typically listed as an aggregate.
Are retirement accounts protected?
Most qualified retirement accounts are exempt under § 522(d)(12) or state equivalents. List them here and claim the exemption on Schedule C.
Schedule C — Exemptions — free
After listing your assets on Schedule A/B, claim your exemptions on Schedule C. Choose federal or state exemptions and cite the authorizing statute for each asset.
